Sorry, it's been quiet around here this week! I've been working hard designing my website. I have a whole new respect for website designers. I'm creating mine from scratch (paying someone to do the coding part though!) and designing every single little piece, right down to every button, is quite an undertaking. But I am seriously loving it. I'm learning so much and seeing my "vision" come to reality is pretty exciting. This has been sitting on the shelves of my brain for a couple years now & it's finally happening. It's really coming along!
Today I rewarded myself for my hard work this week (a benefit of being your own boss, I realize I'm very lucky!) and played hookie from doing work before I picked up the boys from school. I hit *5* thrift stores from about 9am to 2pm. I was pooped! There's something about hunting through shelves and shelves of stuff at thrift stores that's exhausting. Do you feel that way? Especially the book shelves. Digging and digging through each.and.every.book so you don't miss a thing! (notice I didn't say "racks".. looking through clothes at the thrifts is something I rarely ever do. I know, kind of crazy. I really should. I make a bee-line to the housewares. And kid's toys/books. ALWAYS.)
I'm not sure what was in the air today, but today was ALL ABOUT BOOKS. That is all I brought home (well minus the vintage dresser/mirror set I bought for 50 bucks.. gotta go back and pick that up.. more on that later). Books are some of my favorite things to buy at the thrifts because:
a) They're cheap. Although hello? 2 bucks for a hardback is kind of a lot. Oh well.
b) They don't take up a lot of room (our tiny house is bursting at the seams. Needless to say Ethan and I have been house-hunting online lately. Going on 14 yrs in this house. We're OVER IT. Time to "graduate" as Ethan put it. Ha!)
c) When it comes to vintage stuff, there's nothing (NOTHING) I love more than vintage illustrations. Especially those from the 60's/70's.
d) I LOVE blogging vintage books/illustrations. So I'll be sharing the insides of these in the future! As we all know, the best stuff is inside.
A lot of these books are compilations of various stories and the illustration style for each story can vary so much. So they're packed with such a great variety of goodies.
The children's books are always my favorites but I did score some amazing Needlepoint and Embroidery books! I died when I saw the patterns from the Needlepoint book. As you can see I'm on a needlepoint kick (so many ideas!) and needlepoint patterns from the 70's are kind of amazing. Can't wait to share those.
Speaking of, thank-you so so much for the kind words on the purse! And to all those that have pinned it or shared it. Means a lot to me. PLEASE let me know if you make it! I would looove to see photos. : )
Have a great weekend!

One Kitten for Kim is a favorite of my daughter and I. I love the beautiful illustrations and she giggles every time at the end. What luck to find it!

I love the books in op-shops too. I bought 'There was an old lady who swallowed a fly' just recently-I was so excited to find it because I loved it as a child, and I'm in Australia!

Great finds! I actually picked up that "One Kitten for Kim" book a while back during an estate sale. My daughter loves it. :)

I can't tell you how many times I pored over "Make & Do" as a child, dreaming of the craft projects in there!

I scored the Creative Needlework book at our local library book sale last year and I LOVE it! I've been meaning to blog about the many wonderful and inspiring projects. I found another needlework book by the same author, Jo Springer, and it's even more fabulous! Your post is inspiring me to blog about some of my vintage book finds. :)
