So did you get up bright and early and hit Target this morning for all the zig zag mania? I have to admit, I tried to keep myself away, but the Missooooooniiiii call drew me out of my home. I'm a sucker. Were you? Admittedly, a lot of it was really pretty. I had my cart full and then I put about three quarters back. I knew I might have zig zag fever when I started to put the Missoni patterned scented candle in my cart. Why the heck do I need a Missoni patterned candle?
I do have a fun Missoni for Target inspired FREE crochet pattern for you! Designed by the fabulous Vickie Howell. Want to avoid the price tag for that gorgeous throw? Well Vickie created a baby blanket pattern inspired by the Missoni throw, but you could easily adapt it for any size blanket.
Vickie's pattern is more of a Chevron pattern and not so zig-zaggy, but still equally lovely.
I love the jewel tones of Vickie's new yarn line Sheep(ish), which she used in her blanket above. I got to play with some of her yarn using this pattern as well. Here's my progress. It's a very simple pattern but after comparing my blanket to Vickie's I realized I made a slight mistake that will bug me til eternity... so knowing me, I'll probably start over. :P
Notice how her stripes are separated by that "ridge" created by crocheting into the front loop? I must have mixed up my front loop and back loop rows, because my "ridges" seem to be off. But at least I was consistent, maybe it doesn't look like an accident? (ha)
All that said, I loved getting back in the crochet-saddle again. It had been a while. I do love the idea of a chevron or zig zag or ripple blanket, unlike a granny square blanket! It's like instant gratification. You see the blanket progress as you go. There are no parts to sew together at the end (well except for working in those ends. ; )
Read more about my experience with this yarn and pattern over on Ohdeedoh today and don't forget to download that free pattern! Thanks Vickie!
Chevron and lace papers from my Granny's Attic & Watercolor Doilies Paper Collection digital kits.
And I have to mention my thrift scores above: the wicker chair from Goodwill for $12 and the Mid-Century magazine rack for $2. Happy day! Have you had good luck at the thrifts lately? Link me up to the eye candy!

It is lovely! I made a zig-zag/chevron blanket a few weeks ago for a friend's new baby (http://bit.ly/nKiuZa). You're so right about it being instant gratification. A few episodes of Buff and I was done!

I was at Target at 8am up here in Pennsylvania. There were about 8 of us waiting outside. I had to go in with only 20 dollars and decide on one or two small things I really wanted. I got a mug and the box with the lid. It is going to look so cute on my bookshelf I can't wait to bring it in my house after work!

I tried to resist as well but ended up going after work---at least it gave me less to choose from. :) I got a serving platter, stationery, barrettes, and a picture frame. What did you get? This blanket is so beautiful--I really need to get better at crocheting!

The blanket reminds me of something my grandma would have made. Missoni? I never even heard of it before today! Have I been living under a rock? I want to give a shout out to your blue pillow that has managed to sneak into almost every shot (not to mention in your living room pictures.) My mom made pillows like that and we had them on our beds and on the couch when we were kids. I don't think I've seen a pillow like that in over 40 years! Love it! :D

I checked out my Target on my lunch break here in Western PA and everything was practically GONE! It was crazy. I did snag a cute pair of heels though and took a small clutch out of what I 'think' was an employees returns cart. :) LOVE zig zag :)
