I'm so excited to share with you a gorgeous online magazine called Southern Flourish. This is their fourth issue (it's a quarterly publication) and it's quite a beauty! As a Southerner myself, I was SO thrilled to see a Southern-centric magazine full of all the things I love: handmade, crafts, interior decor inspiration, lifestyle stories, lots of yummy recipes and more. You can subscribe for just $10 per year... but as a Thompson Family-Life reader, they are offering this discount code: THOMPSONFAM to get $2 off (4 issues for just $8, that's $2 an issue!). Yay!
I have pretty much spent my entire life in the South: born and went to college in Alabama, lived in Arkansas and Tennessee as well, have lived the past 12 years in Georgia, and ALL of my relatives from both my Mom and Dad's side are from Louisiana! phew!.. ok we had a brief stint in New Jersey where I even lost my Southern accent for a while.. put we won't worry about that. I got that accent back ten-fold when we moved to Arkansas. ; )
Now that I'm in a Atlanta, which sometimes feels more like a melting-pot and not overly and typically Southern, I think my accent has subdued, but it flairs up when I get around my very Southern family. : )
Ok, sorry for that tangent. Can you tell I'm proud of my Southern Heritage?
A few months ago I stumbled onto Lesley Graham via Twitter and all the sudden I realized, wow! There are so many really cool people in Atlanta that are into the same things I love! I've since stumbled onto even more amazing Atlanta women that are well-known in the handmade and design community. I feel like I've grown even more proud of where I live knowing that all of these talented women (and men!) are living not too far from me. With all of the San Francisco's, New York's, Chicago's and Portland's (etc) of the world, sometimes I feel very far away from the pulse of the handmade and design community. But have no fear! We are alive and well here in the South! And that is what's so awesome about Southern Flourish. They put a name with all of these talented Southern faces.
Lesley, who is the Typically Southern Editor of Southern Flourish, contacted me to share that their newest (and they feel BEST!) issue would be launched this week. It is gorgeous folks. The preview above is just a taste. I'm pretty much in LOVE with their recycled sweater D.I.Y's and hope to make some myself. I mean, look at the huge bow the model is wearing on the cover? I die. : ) These amazing ideas and gorgeously styled photos are from Atlantan Annette Joseph. The talented photographer behind the photos, also from Atlanta, is Lara Rossignol. She also has a very inspiring blog called Piewacket.
There is also a home tour from a couple in Huntsville, Alabama and a city tour of one of my FAVORITE Southern cities: Birmingham, Alabama (I will be visiting myself next weekend!)
There is an incredibly interesting day-in-the-life article by Brittany Grace Shiver, a talented Atlanta native who's business Grace's Goodness is her "street food with a conscience" dining concept (which I love!).
I hope you will enjoy this magazine as much as I do and maybe learn a little bit more about our part of the Country. ; )

I'm definitely checking out that magazine. It looks so fun!
I didn't know you lived in Arkansas...I was born there and lived in Redfield and North Little Rock when I was little. My grandparents and some other family are in NLR. I started 2nd grade in Florida.
