First, I wanted to say wow, I appreciate your honest and compassionate comments on my last post. They really meant so much to me. I think that so many of us are in the same boat and we turn to this online community to connect with people. So many of us are stay-at-home-moms or work-at-home-moms. We spend ALOT of time at home. ;-) Alone, with little munchkins.
I think that connecting with people online is such a natural thing. And so much of what we're going through is universal. I hope that we can all be a little bit more honest and candid about what we go through every day. Just hearing your stories immediately made me feel at ease, and "normal". Of course, I know that other moms/women are going through the same things, but it means so much to hear it. So thank-you from the bottom of my heart for sharing!
I think I would like to do something on my blog that would encourage you to come here and vent a little. ;-) If you don't want to vent on your blogs, then you can come here, leave a little comment and just vent. I'll try and think of something that we can do maybe once a month, sound good? We can commiserate and talk about how un-perfect our homes look, how dirty they are, how you left the load of laundry in the wash for 3 days in a row and now it's all moldy, how you just can't seem to keep it together, how your 2 year old laid out on the floor at Wal-Mart and had an all-out tantrum, how you haven't gotten out of your pajamas in 3 days, you even drive through carpool in your PJs...
i mean, you gals do this right? (said with sheepish grin)
Once I figure out how we'll do this little commiserating ritual, I'll do a post on it. :-) We'll try to put a positive spin on it too so that it's not all doom and gloom. ;-)
SOOOOOO, onto our giveaways!
I'm so excited to feature one of our amazing March sponsors, Modern Kiddo. I'm a bit biased because I'm a huge fan of one of the founders of this awesome site, Alex. I found her on Flickr a while ago and have always been so smitten with her style. Her blog is WAAAY inspiring, too. And she's part of a synchronized Go-Go dance group called the Devil-ettes.. I don't think you can get much cooler than that! :-)
I was so excited to be introduced to her new venture, Modern Kiddo, that she started with her pal Dottie (also a Devil-ette). I seriously find something new every time I visit this site (see some of said eye-candy above). They highlight so much vintage goodness for kids, which I think is so hard to find! They also show lots of boy-fashion which is such a relief to me having two boys that I find increasingly hard to find cool duds for. This site is a total hit with me. I think you'll love it too!
Make sure to check out their "Weekly Kiddo" feature where they feature a special kid with awesome style each week. You can find submission guidelines here to have your own little hipster featured!
First, can I just say that I *ADORE* their logo. I love the Scandinavian influence. BIG LOVE. And what a cool giveaway they are doing! They are based out of San Francisco (which makes them even cooler in my book.. I secretly dream of living there) and they are giving away the amazing book, This is San Francisco (as seen above). The illustrations are just incredible. It's a vintage reproduction, so it's in brand new pristine condition. Here are the details:
Here's a flat-out classic. In 1962, Czech author-illustrator Miroslav Sasek created This Is San Francisco, another installment of his series of children's travel guides (This Is Paris, This Is London, This Is New York). With his usual distinctive and charming style, Sasek tours the sights around the City by the Bay, including Lombard Street, the cable cars, Fishermen's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, and Chinatown. This 2003 reissue edition also includes a number of annotations about how certain locales have changed since the book was published. There's a good chance that anyone who grew up in or near San Francisco will remember this book fondly. Everyone else has a joyous discovery ahead. -David Horiuchi
The second part of this giveaway is a beautiful book by Celine Navarro of The Green Frog Studio. If you are a scrapbooker, then you are very familiar with this pretty lady! She's so crazy talented - an amazing artist. She's giving away a copy of her book, Scrapbooking: Inspiration et techniques, which you can preview here.
It is in french, but don't let that deter you. It's full of eye candy and ideas! Here's a great review of this book by a non-french speaking fan. :-)
