I wanted to share with you something that arrived in my inbox last week. I thought it was spam in all honesty, but it peeked my attention enough that I let it sit in my inbox for a couple days before I finally checked it out. I figured "why not", doesn't hurt to look. And I'm so glad I did!
Turns out it wasn't spam but a very talented author and illustrator named Dallas Clayton emailing me about his new children's book, "An Awesome Book". I checked it out and I have to admit I was totally giddy after looking at the illustrations. As a mom to 2 kids, we have ALOT of books in this house. Some we really like, some are definitely "throw-away" books we like to call them. Just junky books that you can tell no one put any thought into them.. they were just filling a quota.
My mother-in-law and Ethan have always inspired me with their knowledge of children's books.. the really good ones out there. With unique illustrations and imaginative text. So finding a NEW book like this one, is very exciting.
I was totally **inspired** by Dallas's book. I hope you will check it out! I promptly bought it myself and I can't wait to read it to Cooper. I think it has a great life-lesson inside and the illustrations are just so creative and imaginative. I can't wait to see it in person. Looks like his first run has sold out, but he will have more shipping soon. You can preorder.
What first sucked me in was this totally charming and hilarious video he made of himself talking about his book:

Makes me laugh. :-)
Here are a couple images from the book:

On to sharing a couple more things. I've been meaning to talk about this for a month now but keep forgetting! Kari Ramstrom has created a new blog called "A Year of Color" that will be talking all about, you guessed it, color for all of 2009. :-) She asked me to contribute to the blog along with many other incredibly talented artists. Here is the entire list of artists. Very impressive list! :-) I will be contributing things here and there throughout the year, but my "month" is May and I will have even more stuff to share.. hopefully a tutorial or 2. :-)
To view the blog, you must register by purchasing the Etsy listing in Kari's ArtsyMama shop. It's only $1 per month for all of 2009 for unlimited inspiration!
I hope you will check it out!
I've also posted TONS of even more new artwork by the Kitschy Digitals Creative Team over at the KD blog if you'd like to check it out! These girls just amaze me. I'm very lucky. :-) Here's a sneak peek.

(artwork by Kirsty Neale.)
Don't stop here, go to the new post for even more project photos and project how-to's! :-) Tons of eye candy!
Oh! and i almost forgot.. i just wanted to wave "Hi" to those that have come via Decor8. Holly featured my Etsy shop, Tiny Bazaar, yesterday. I about peed my pants when I saw it. Not only was she nice enough to do that, she said really generous and sweet things. I, like so many, are such a fan of her blog, and more importantly her. She's amazing. I feel very very honored. You can read the whole post here. I especially like how she talked about owning Blythe dolls, so she appreciated my Blythe photography... lol! :-) I LOVE Blythe fans! I actually submitted my shop to her b/c she does those Etsy Take 5 Tuesday features every Tuesday.. so any Etsy shop owners out there, submit! All it takes is one email. You never know!

Just have to share - with a 5.5 yo and an education degree.. we have .. oh one or two books as well ;) Our favorites are by Graeme Base. Hands down the best illustrations... and each book has many complex layers to it. They are like activities in themselves. Uno's Garden for example can be read cover to cover in a few minutes and on each page the children can look for a character. However also embedded in this book about the environment and the impact of man is many many many mathematical concepts. Some include codes embedded in the images etc and present other challenges. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graeme_Base or http://www.penguin.com.au/lookinside/spotlight.cfm?SBN=9780670041916&Page=look ENJOY (I sound like spam now..LOL).. Thanks for mentioning this new book we will check it out!
