So I ***finally*** did my first little photo shoot with Miss Sally Rice (or as all the cool kids call her, "MSR". ;-) And actually I'm not very cool myself, because I haven't name her yet. Any suggestions??! I was watching Iron Man with Ethan and I was thinking how cool the name Pepper Potts sounded. But then I thought that people will think i'm just a big IronMan fan. Which I'm not (although i did like the movie!)... sooo... hmm. Must think about it. And honestly? I really love the name:
Blythe.
Lol! Maybe I'll be a rebel and just name her that. ;-)
I spent a good amount of time "fixing" Blythe's hair yesterday. I had read that alot of these dolls come from the factory with not so wonderful looking hair: i.e. badly cut fringe (bangs for we Amercian Folk), kinked from being in the box, strands coming out. So i found a tutorial online to trim and thicken her bangs and how to clean her hair... i've been pouring over Blythe forums learning everything I need to know... man, have I entered a new and interesting world. :-) I'm loving it TOO MUCH. I'm totally hooked and everyone keeps telling me that it's hard to just have one. Oh, don't I know. I'm already dreaming about the next one I might get. Will have to wait for the holidays again I guess... lol! ;-)
I also did a boiling water treatment on her hair to make it softer and shiny. That was scary too, but apparently you can submerge her hair in almost-boiling water and not melt it. I also straightened her hair using the wet-towel-ironing method. You just put a wet towel over her wet hair and then iron on top of the towel with an iron. You hear alot of "sizzling" but that is good and means her hair isn't, MELTING. ::::eep:::: But we had no melting episodes yesterday, thank goodness.
Once she was done I dressed her up in my favorite outfit (that i purchased from Leisurely Grass... a present to myself. Like i don't get enough of those. ;-) I didn't have much light left to work with yesterday, but i just had to take some pics:
Still need to tweak her bangs a bit, but they look much better!
I also finally figured out how to change her eyes.. i knew that you could just pull on her pull-cord and they would change, but i was afraid of breaking her. Lol! but when i finally pulled hard enough, i got to see all 4 of her eye chip colors.. too much fun. Cooper told me that he preferred her blue eyes. :-)
I love the eye colors where they cut to the side. Such personality! And could someone please make a dress JUST LIKE THIS ONE in my size? ::::sigh::::
I wanted to share with you my favorite doll photographer, Renata from Brazil. :-) Her work is just so inspiring and totally stands out in the world of doll photography. And she's incredibly generous with her knowledge and so friendly. I'm so happy to have met her on Flickr! She was even nice enough to do a birthday-photo-dedication for me for my birthday. She does that for alot of her doll friends, so i felt very honored to say the least! :-)
Here are some examples of her Blythe photography. She owns alot of Takara AND Kenner Blythe dolls (if you don't know, the Kenner ones are actual vintage ones from the original Blythe line made in the 70's! WOW!)
She uses her Canon 100mm Macro lens on alot of these, she told me. I can't wait to start using mine. The benefits of having a macro lens when photographing dolls is endless. I feel like i'll really be able to use my macro to it's fullest potential now... fun!
This is one of her customized Blythes (Below). There's a whole world of Blythe customization out there! Insanity! It's amazing the artistry that goes into these. Truly amazing.
And here are some of her other dolls... so lifelike.. these are just amazing. They blow my mind. These make me want to go to Japan even more. Now if only plain tickets would decrease in price. :(
