So today's post is about the cupcakes. I'm a cupcake lover, so I knew exactly what I wanted for these. (Of course it's *Campbell's* birthday, and I would've let him pick out what he wanted, but lucky for me, he is oblivious to these things now. YAY!! ;-)
I knew the color of the icing that I wanted and when I was ordering the cupcakes at Publix, I naively told the lady that was taking my order.... "I want mint green icing."... she looked at me sort of confused. "You know, mint green.".... She was like, "Oh yeh, we have green. See it right over there?"... Um, not so much. Her "mint green" was a garrish lime green. I don't know what I was thinking. Plus, this lady was really REALLY flippant. Really not-so-happy-to-be-working-at-a-bakery. Really bad 'tude. So by that point, I honestly wanted to just run away. It was a BAD BAD exchange on cupcakes. LOL. I was so flustered. I felt like crying "She's being MEAN to me! WHAH!!"...
lol.
So thank GOODNESS I just said "Nevermind. I'll take white icing." and went home. But then the next day I decided that I couldn't live without my mint green icing and looked for something I could take up there as a color chip. I flipped though Martha Stewart Living's new Color Issue and found just the thing! A whole article on the mint herb! :-) The background they used for photography was just the color I wanted. So I tore out a little section and took it to the bakery. Luckily the disgruntled employee wasn't there and I got to talk to some really nice ladies. :-) And lucky for us I couldn't live without that mint green, b/c they couldn't find my order to tape my color chip to. NO ORDER IN SIGHT. I would've come home empty handed on Saturday.
LOVELY!
But they turned out great. I told the ladies that I appreciated how nice they were b/c the other lady that took my order was not so nice. They seemed sincerely shocked. Like, why would someone be rude? It's always sad to me when people don't take pride in their jobs no matter what they are doing. I worked in a bakery in high school. I loved it. Ate too many baked goods, but back then I could eat everything in sight and not gain a pound. :::::sigh:::::::
So I digress.. here are the cupcakes! I got the toppers from one of my all-time favorite stores: A. Bel Emporium at Etsy. The cake stand is from Williams-Sonoma. I got the oil cloth tablecloths from this site. GREAT deal on these. They were pretty pricey elsewhere. The one shown in these pictures I actually already owned. But the one I had on the kitchen table (not pictured) and on the table outside where the kids made the terrariums (pictured in last post) are the ones I ordered. They are so easy to clean! And super cute and colorful.
(I used some retro-ish actions and textures on a few of these. Makes the clown toppers look a little creepy, but good-creepy, at least to me. Lol! Crackle texture by Corinne. Other texture by Leah.)
And here they are on the kitchen table during the party that night.
I also wanted to share this banner that I hung. I wanted to make one myself, but when I saw this made from vintage sheets on Etsy, I couldn't pass it up. It was just TOO cute and the price couldn't be beat. And it saved me from adding another project to my to-do list! Although I did add the felt letters myself. It was a plain banner when I bought it. I had enough banner left to add "Campbell" to the end of "Happy Birthday", but when I was working on it one night, at like midnight, I realized I had only made it to the first "P" in "Happy" and I looked at Ethan and he was like "Maybe you should just leave off "Campbell". Lol... I did, thank goodness, or I'd still be handstitching those suckers now!
Tomorrow hopefully I can work on the terrarium post! Thanks for checking in! :-)

cupcakes from publix--who knew?
you inspired me to branch out in my quest for fab cupcakes earlier this year & thus began my little road trip to highlands....i will give good 'ole publix a try. i love what they did for you...those are insanely cute!! the little doodads you added on the top are way too fun.
aren't first birthdays just the funnest to plan?
we did a daisy theme when my littlest was one...had daisies all around her white buttercream frosted cake....used my daisy cake pan from W.S. for another side cake....precious.
anyway...great photos of campbell. he has to be one of the cutest little men ever!
can't wait to see what you did with the terariums!
