A new kit & news :-)

I wanted to share with you guys a new Kitschy Digitals Kit! They are digital Washi Tape Frames. :-) I just love this kind of tape... it's made from Washi paper which is a type of Japanese paper. It's comes in beautiful colors and it's slightly transparent... yum!

Kit includes: 10 high-resolution PSD and PNG files. These come in 10 colors.

Here are some examples... These would be so fab to use on your personal (or commercial) blog to frame your photos! Just gives your photos that extra something. :-) I just adore these colors!

 

As you can see, the photos show through the tape very realistically. I've included PSD files (unflattened Photoshop files) that allow you to do this. Your photo is "masked" so that it looks like the transparent tape is really right on top of it. I'll have a tutorial on how to do this later in the post.

I've also included PNG files that you can use.. with these, the tape frames are opaque, so that your photo will not show through. So you have 2 options... a transparent Tape Frame (PSD file) that allows your photos to show through:

... and Opaque Tape Frames (PNG files) that are just that.. opaque. It gives you a different look. These files have just one layer in them and are easier to work with.

 

That said, the PSD files are easy too... just a few more steps with those. Here's a tutorial on how to use those.

Step #1: Open your desired Washi Tape Frame & your photo that you want framed:

 

Open your "Layers" Palette (Windows>Layers).

Step #2: Drag your photo onto your Washi Tape Frame file...

Step #3: You'll see (as in the example above) that there is a layer that says "DRAG YOUR PHOTO BENEATH THIS LAYER". Do just that with your "Layer 1" photo layer.

You'll see that your photo is already being "masked" so that your image only extends to where an actual photo would if it were under the "tape frame".

Step #4: You will probably need to reduce your photo in size to "fit" your Tape Frame.. or you can always crop it any way you'd like. Your photo is being "masked" so you can just drag it around and/or reduce in size until you like the way it looks. (to reduce or enlarge your photo: hit Control T, place your arrow on one corner point, hold the shift key at the same time, and drag.)

You'll want to move your photo around so that no more black is showing:

Then hit "enter". All done!

Now, you can either use this finished image to display on your blog, or you can even print it out as all of these Washi Tape Frames are high-resolution.

Or, if you want to use this on a scrapbook page, you'll need to "link" all of your layers together and then drag them all to your scrapbook page canvas.

So, as you can see above, I've selected all of the layers in my file. (Select the top layer, hold the shift key, then click the bottom layer - this will select all of your layers. They will all show up in blue.) Then click that little "chain link" icon at the bottom of your Layer's Palette. You can see my arrow pointing to it in the above image.

Now your layers are linked and you can just drag them all to your scrapbook page layout. You can move them around on your page easily since they're all linked together. (Feel free to delete the "DRAG YOUR PHOTO BENEATH THIS LAYER" layer as you don't need it anymore. It was strictly for instruction.)

And a CUTE purse that Stina Glaas just whipped up in an hour and a half! amazing! I'm assuming she ironed the image onto fabric (using iron-on ink-jet paper) and then sewed it up. I think that rose image looks beautiful with that pink frame. Think of all of the possibilities with these.. you could use photos of your children and make handbags for the grandmothers... fun!

I was thinking when I created this page how awesome digital scrapbooking is... or digital ART in general. For a person like me, that's a mom, a business woman, etc, etc.. free time is VERY scarce around here. It's so cool to be able to whip up something like this, in under an hour... to get that creative energy OUT of my system and to do something for *me*, ya know? And it doesn't have to take forever and i don't have a mess to clean up afterwards. And it doesn't have to be all that meaningful if you don't want it to be.. it can be just FUN. :-)

On that note, i wanted to share some somewhat sad, but also some very *EXCITING* news about Kitschy Digitals. You might have noticed that this new kit is available directly from this blog. From now on I will be selling my digital kits through my own website! :-) I will no longer be selling future kits through Two Peas in a Bucket. Selling my kits there was a great way to get my feet wet in all of this, but I'm looking forward to creating my own brand and my own little Kitschy "world" on my own. I know that the very kind people that purchase my kits come from ALL different backgrounds, not just scrapbooking, so it only feels *right* to not be selling through an exclusively scrapbooking oriented site. Not that Two Peas isn't an AMAZING place in the scrapbooking world. Because it is. :-) And i'm so happy I got to be a part of it for almost a year!

It's always a little scary branching out "on your own", but honestly from the beginning I've really wanted to DO this on my own. In the spirit of independant small business. Crafters, scrapbookers, photographers, DIYers, Etsiers, use my kits, so I want my website to appeal to ALL of those people. I'm excited about the future! This new website will not only have all of my new digital kits, but also my Kitschy Digitals {Goods} line of printed goods, embroidery patterns, vinyl decals, and more! Everything will be in ONE place. :-)

It will take a few months to get my site going, so in the meantime, I'll be selling my new kits directly from this blog. Please note that ALL of the kits I've already released will STILL be available at Two Peas in a Bucket! So all past kits are still available and always will be, at Two Peas.

Until I can figure out a better way to do this (and after I've had a good night's sleep.. it's 12:28am right now), if you want these frames with a Commercial or Photographer's License, the cost will be $12 total.
